Summer Fundraiser

You can never outgive God

Each year, St Mary’s Church gives a minimum of 10% of all monies received to charity. We believe in being a generous church to those around us. We support a wide range of charities and causes, local, national and international.  We do this through special events and activities as well as direct donations from our members and church funds.

Summer Fundraiser: July - September 2017

In addition, each year we focus on raising funds for a particular local organisation/charity via our Summer Fundraiser campaign. Last year, we raised  £2560 to support the Peterborough and Fenland Mind.  The charity promotes good mental health and develops and runs services and projects to help serve local people with mental health problems including anxiety, depression, low self-esteem and eating disorders.

This year, we aim to raise £1,500 by the end of September, with proceeds to help fund improvements to the church, thus benefitting the communities that use our church and centre and  50% of monies raised will be given to our chosen charity, the Young People's Counsellling Service

The charity provides a free, confidential counselling service to those aged between 11 and 25 who live in Whittlesey or the surrounding areas and who are suffering depression, abuse, bullying and many other problems. A course of 12 counselling sessions with a young person costs £360 to deliver. With your help we can ensure that a number of troubled young people get the support and care they need.

Please think about how you can help us to reach our target and make a big difference to a young person. You might invite friends, family or colleagues around for some tea and cake in exchange for donations; offer them your services or tuition, whether it be gardening, cleaning, doing odd jobs, ironing, technology or language skills; sell something you’ve make or simply no longer need and donate the proceeds; or be sponsored to do (or not do) something.

Best of all please do support those who are raising money for the Fundraiser and don’t forget to bring friends or family members to the events being held.

So far, we have enjoyed a treasure hunt around the parish, followed by a much welcome strawberry tea and our resident Mary Berry, Joyce A, is baking delicious delights and selling them at coffee time – Thank you Joyce! We would love to hear of more events you are planning and your ideas so we can really assist the young people who so need our help.

For more information please contact St Mary’s Church Office at: office@peterborough-stmarys.org.uk or ring (01733) 564899 and please remember to log the date of your event with us so that no clashes take place.

We look forward to seeing you.
